Pixel Art Animator – Altered Alma

  • Remote
  • Full time
  • Contract

Open until filled

We’re looking for a Pixel Art Animator to help bring the characters, combat and world of Altered Alma to life.

Altered Alma is our cyberpunk metroidvania set in Neo Barcelona. You’ll join a multidisciplinary development team and take animations from early references and key poses through to polished, implementation-ready assets.

What you’ll do

  • Create expressive pixel-art animations for characters, enemies and gameplay sequences.
  • Communicate weight, personality and intent through strong posing, timing and silhouettes.
  • Produce readable combat animations that feel responsive during gameplay.
  • Take work from concept and reference through iteration to final in-game assets.
  • Collaborate closely with artists, designers and programmers.
  • Review animations in context, respond to feedback and refine them in the game.
  • Follow the project’s visual direction, scale, palette and technical conventions.
  • Help improve the animation pipeline and maintain consistency across the game.

What we’re looking for

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating pixel-art character animation.
  • A solid understanding of animation fundamentals, including timing, spacing, weight, anticipation and follow-through.
  • Experience creating animations with Aseprite or a comparable pixel-art tool.
  • The ability to translate concepts and references into clear, expressive movement.
  • Comfort giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Good written and spoken English for day-to-day collaboration.
  • The ability to organise your work, communicate progress and solve problems with the rest of the team.

We care more about the quality of your work and how you think than the number of years you have worked in the industry.

Nice to have

  • Experience with subpixel animation.
  • Experience animating action, combat or platforming mechanics.
  • Previous experience working on a commercial game.
  • Familiarity with implementing and reviewing animation inside a game engine.
  • An interest in metroidvanias, science fiction or cyberpunk settings.

These are advantages, not requirements. Please apply even if you do not match every point.

What we offer

  • A full-time position working 36 hours across Monday to Thursday.
  • Flexible working hours, with shared core hours from 10:00 to 16:00 CEST.
  • Remote work from anywhere in Spain under a Spanish employment contract, or remote work as an independent contractor from anywhere in the EU or EEA.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an original game.
  • A collaborative environment where artists, designers and engineers work directly together.
  • An international team with shared ownership of the work and room to propose ideas.

A formal cover letter is not required.
