R3: Run, Rewind, Repeat! Is a speed-running platformer where you compete against time. Instead of using the typical die, repeat feedback loop using lives we give the player infinite retries to cross a level in a given time and they have the ability to kill themselves by pressing a button at any point to gain more time if they consider the challenge too difficult. We call this "Rewinds". They create an intermediate checkpoint that grants extra time for the next run. So, with R3 we are exploring the possibility of letting the players adjust the difficulty in real-time. Obstacles, enemies, or platform falls in the game will not kill the player but they make you lose precious time. Which eventually could end up bringing you back to the previous checkpoint. This in combination with the Rewind mechanic will gives a feeling of rush where you are always on the edge of using the Rewind or keep running to try to make it in time. Use as many Rewinds and time as needed to complete a level but doing so will grant a low score at the end and drop your chances against the competition. Built to appeal to competitive speedrunners while also extremely fun in a less competitive playstyle for those that just want a challenging platformer.
